Sudelar Recent History
Sudelar - the last 10 years
3486
Queen Morlane declares her borders closed when she discovers that Kelbarden is suffering a dark plague: It appears as black smog that ravages their lands. All trade and all commerce stops and visitors to the Desert Queen's realm are turned away. This does have the knock on effect of reducing the amount of arable-land goods that come to Morlane's realm this year. The peasants are less than pleased.
3487
The Kelbarden plague is over, Queen Morlane opens the Sudelarian borders and once more trade resumes. This comes after a hard year that almost triggered a revolt in the peasantry who have become used to the goods they received from the other lands outside of Sudelar. A three month festival is declared in order to win back the hearts of the people, it succeeds.
3488
With the borders open again this year sees resurgence in foreign visitors - the slave trade that was almost extinguished thrives once more as a new tick digs itself into the desert sands. Even the Lord Kayne is hard pressed to thwart this particular slave ring as the Sons of the Rope grow stronger and stronger. They are led by a woman known only as Quala.
3489
The slave traders suffer considerable losses but their numbers continue to grow. A mysterious raider sweeps out of the desert and descends upon them like a fierce storm. It is said that this raider is accompanied by a woman who is tall and lean with hair like a waterfall of snow. A small group of desert foxlin accompany this duo and leave a trail of bloody retribution behind them. Quala is wounded but escapes the first assault on her hideout.
3490
At the midpoint of this year Quala has not risen again, her slave trade seems to be still flowing and no one is any the wiser how she is able to do it. A vast earthquake strikes the land and destroys the western portion of Sudelar city causing a death toll of the thousands. The city is quick to act and moves to reconstruct as looters and other undesirables flock to the damaged homes. Lord Kayne is forced to mount the offender's heads upon pikes - a task that he doesn't mind in the slightest.
3491
As Sudelar City is reconstructed the forces of the Slave Trader: Quala begin to grow as she assembles more and more. The earthquake has disturbed an ancient tomb far to the west of the desert. It is here that Quala finds a fragment of a long banished creature's soul. The creature possesses Quala and infuses her with supernatural abilities. The slave trader makes a bargain with Rahek and sacrifices one hundred souls garnered from her own retinue to power the transformation. She then vanishes back into her sink-hole.
3492
No longer interested in simple slaves and monetary gain Quala finds that she can slake her thirst, with power. Power that she can steal from mortal hearts and minds, several villages along the western edge of the desert and reduced to bloody ruin in the wake of this newly birthed warrior and sorceress. She believes herself to be the incarnation of the Lady Crimson. Several pitched battles are fought between Quala and her minions as she transforms the western desert into her own personal kingdom.
3493
Sudelar City is all but reconstructed now and a new population thrives. The city holds another festival for three months even though Queen Morlane knows that a rival is out in the west by now. Quala has sent Morlane several gifts, the heads and hearts of the Desert Queen's finest soldiers who were sent out to battle the sorceress' armies. Lord Kayne is angered by this and in an uncharacteristic show of emotion decides that he needs to take matters into his own bloody hand.
3494
An army departs Sudelar led by Kayne himself. His goal is quite simple, the complete and utter eradication of Quala and anyone allied with her. The Red Lord vanishes into the western desert and engages in numerous skirmishes with the sorceresses armies. He is victorious against every one and sends Quala's minions back to her stripped of their skin. Vivisected corpses arrive at the Crimson Lady's desert fortress throughout the year.
3495
Lord Kayne's army finally draws Quala out and a six month long battle takes place in the west. Those who survive it speak of deeds that defy heroism and chill the blood of any who hear the tales. Atrocities committed by both sides are the bread and butter of these tales and those who know the Red Lord well enough can tell they are not idle boasts. They speak of a mighty storm that raged for a whole month and decimated army after army with whipping strands of sand and grit. Men would march into those deathly winds and those who came back did so with tales of a terror inside that numbed their minds and tore their bodies to shreds. Yet somehow Quala escaped and naught was heard from the Red Lord - many feared Kayne was well and truly dead.
3496
Rumours continue to flourish that the Red Lord is finally dead. Those who disliked Lord Kayne speak ill of his name (but not in earshot of the Queen or her servants). Even now in the current year there is no sign of Lord Kayne and the desert winds dare not whisper of him, it is said that even the west lies silent in mourning for the mighty lord. Quala has indeed vanished and her fortress lies in ruin, each and every stone slaked in blood and sinew. Plunged into the heart of her throne is a sword that could only be Kayne's. The demon blade kills any who dare to try and claim it - the seers and oracles begin to whisper that the Red Lord is far from finished and simply bides his time for a return.
