Science in Ashirion
Most levels of scientific learning on the Broken Sphere are rudimentary at best. Rudimentary healing techniques, setting broken bones, rudimentary surgery and quack methods are common. Alchemists are pretty common as well, with a dozen potions, ungents and tinctures for just about anything.
Even the highest levels of technology do not have a clue of DNA or RNA, the understanding of high-level genetics does not exist on Ashirion. There are certain scientific terms that don't apply and should a player use them, most characters will consider you in need of trepanning to let out the brain worms. This isn't Earth in 2008, always go to Wolf with those kinds of questions as they fall under the bracket of 'theme related'
If it doesn't kill you, it's going to cure you, or make you glow green and lose your hair.
There's rudimentary physics, understanding of mirrors/lenses to allow for telescopes and so forth. There's gunpowder, explosives and various unstable concoctions. There's steam powered devices and for that level of technology you're looking at steampunk as a basis, if you don't understand the genre then google should give you some ideas. There have been various steampunk creations over the years, the works of Verne, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and even the most recent film: the Golden Compass based on His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman.
Human understanding of these technologies varies from place to place, Ruatha being the renaissance centre of learning has one of the highest human levels of technology and windships are common, usually grand vessels akin to zeppelins or in the case of some they're held aloft by aetheric gravity nullificators.
The Iltyr and Ishanti have higher than human technology and they are capable of producing steam driven tanks, the Iltyr have often crafted, using their technomancy, steam guardians, giant walking constructs of magic and technology to protect their cities. One of the highest technological, magical and scientific devices is Captain Talon Mane's incredible vessel: the Mist Reaver, this ship is a one-of-a-kind style windship that you'll find no other comparable vessel to, quite simply put, they don't exist and the technology that went into the Reaver is subject to secrecy.
The rumour that Talon built it himself is just that, one rumour, neither confirmed nor denied.
This is not the be all and end all of the discussion, this is just scratching the surface in terms of what kind of things that are available science wise in a high magic, high fantasy environment like Ashirion. If you want a clarification, just ask.
