Unseelie Fae

The Unseelie. Far across the dimensions and a hop and skip to the side of the Seelie realm is the Kingdom of their dark souled counterparts. The Unseelie, the Kingdom of the Barrow of the Secret Soul. Unlike the Seelie's realm this is a place of darkness, twisted humour and deep secrets. It's always night here and the sky is often lit with a plethora of stars and home to the full moon. Deep forests and caverns hide a multitude of sins and sorrows, the ground often whirls with mist and most places are caught in eternal winter. A cold and unforgiving place. Again time does not pass here for anyone...

And here are the Unseelie, the counterparts to the Seelie in all respects, their skin is ashen grey and their eyes are always one-colour pastel shaded and they are often seen as terminally sorrowed. They favour dark colours for their clothing and many gothic styles of dress, flowing dresses for the women and exquisite black long-tailed coats for the men. It's not unusual to see one wearing a small Highwaymans style mask either. They are angular featured and have the long pointed ears of the Seelie. But they look terribly beautiful, mortals who look upon an angered Unseelie often have been known to quail in fear as they manifest their darker forms to frighten them...and frighten them they do.

Their home is in the darkest forest and there is the Barrow, a huge mound of disturbed earth, haunted and kept safe by dark and terrible spirits, wraiths, ghosts and some bound Risen are often seen patrolling the grounds of the Barrow. As if that was not enough actually getting into this place is a hard enough task, one must know the rhyme and answer correctly to the door-keeper. Inside is another land where a dark and brooding black stone gothic castle resides, this is the home of the Unseelie, they play their games and live their horrific lives here...and they love it.

Curteous towards each other to a point they also play jokes, pranks and dangerous tricks on the lowest of the low to the highest of the high. What a sense of humour they have, unless the joke's on them of course, and then it's not so funny and they have to find another bigger and better, more painful joke to play. Thus it goes on in an endless cycle of fate and fickle. They tend to calm this down when they arrive in our world, but not much. Ever wonder who it was who pulled down your washing line, or stripped your laquered armour of the laquer, yeah it was them, they're twisted like that. Of course the ones who elect to stay calm their senses of humour and macabre down even more.

On this side of the mirror they can be described as very dark and sinister, with long dark coloured hair and spooky one colour eyes, usually silver or white, sometimes total black. They have a penchant for darkly exotic things, foods and wines. Their music is lament filled and they make long poems about the woes of beings like themselves and others. Often appearing at sites of great battles to sing a diurge for the dead. This has given them the nicknames of Crowmen and women. Some say that by this song they help the souls of the dead find their way into Pales embrace.

They prefer the darker wine that they make 'Derro' for this is a deep and rich beverage that is dark purple in colour and shines under the light of the full moon. It tastes of forbidden pleasures and dark desires, heady and powerful. Only the Unseelie wine makers know how this drink is made and there is a special time, under the auspice of the dark of the moon. There are other magics lain into the drink but they are unknown unto most of the world.

Death and shadow are the materials that are born into their armour and weapons, they are of a dark metal known as Shadesteel, partly real and partly shadow it can pass through most armours as if they were smoke, but can be blocked by a beam of light. Even a Wizard's light spell will parry a Shadesteel weapon. Again note most PC Unseelie will NOT start with one of these weapons. Their armour and weaponry always looks of fine but sinister make and they will never teach the secret of their skill to anyone period.
