Humans
Humans, maligned, greedy and selfish, weak and feeble, often in Fantasy represented as the bad guys most of the time. It's true there are a lot of Humans who are like this but also there's a lot of Humans who are virtuous and righteous, who stand against the darkness with sword in hand or spell at the ready come what may.
They are the most numerous race on Ashirion and being that way they have a variety of cultures and styles that exist through the various lands. Good resources for them should be various periods of History on our own planet, from the Dark Ages to the Renaissance and Baroque, Georgian, you name it. It probably makes up the variety and musical influence of the various Humans lands. The main Human land is the Kingdom of Sudelar which is off-camera. There is the Land of Kelbarden as well which has the Capital City of Ruatha known for the Mage's Academy and Guild, also home of the Nine.
Sudelar will be detailed in coming posts and information on the geography of Ashirion, since it's a complex place. But here's an idea of the City of Ruatha.
Six bright shining Spires of grey and gold touched the tops of the clouds almost as they gently scudded across the port city of Ruatha in the lands of Kelbarden. The lands surrounding it were forested and cut across by many dark mountains. The whole area saw a great deal of rain and a moderate amount of sun. High winds often swept in from the sea and washed the various dock streets clean of the smell of the freshly caught fish.
People who passed back and forth through the city wore a variety of clothes that could be described as cosmopolitian, ruffled shirts, tight leggings, surcoats and for some reason, amongst the nobility, floppy hats were in with long feathers. One often wondered if it was the fault of the rogue, Talon Mane.
Long cloaks and bright colours were the order of the day in the dockside and the various locales around it, moving from that you could see the changes to attire became more outlandish as one walked towards the vaunted Noble Quarter of the City. Plumed hats became more and more popular, wider and more outlandish, ruffled jackets and baggy trousers. Some even wore shoes with turned up toes. Then as you made your way down to the seedier areas it became to look more like a typical adventurers City, swords, armour, militia patrols and the like. Dress sense was more reserved here, cloaks and hoods, tunics and breeches and of course the preponderance of broad belts to hook more swords and daggers on.
One could truly say that the Humans were a varied bunch, but that was the idea, since they weren't unusual, they were more of a population than the rest of the races, they could go places not many others could go without arousing interest. They had the ability to just blend in. That is one of their many strengths and perks, usually as well they made damn fine mages because in the time it took an elf to get around to learning one spell, a human had mastered a book.
When playing a Human character try and make them unique in some way, it doesn't have to be a spell or a power it can be in the background, who their father was, perhaps he was a notable bandit or even a member of the City guard. The tools are there in your head to make the person you play come alive. You just have to use them and make the best of what you have. These files are really guidelines to help you interface with my world.
