Character Advancement

Advancement of your Character in the World of Ashirion.

Ashirion is not a MUD and it has no real hardcoded XP system, you can earn RP points for certain actions that you undertake and usually when the GMs and myself see that you're on the grid, not hiding in a room on the grid and you're getting involved in more than one group of player's activities. Characters will not earn any RP points for remaining in the same location as a pair and not interacting with the other players, plots and tinyplots/quests that happen in the world.

These RP points can be spent to advance certain skills (ones that you have set in chargen) to higher levels over time, or buy new ones. Do not expect RP points for everything that you do, and do not ask that we give them out - we decide who warrants the RP points based on our own experience in the scene as NPCs or as GMs. There are many factors to consider and the balance of the game is one of them.

Normal skills can be upped when you have sufficient RP points. To check on your points type +points

Then you may type +set ooc and go to the OOC area, where you can find the exit into Chargen which will allow you access to the 'specials shop' to up previous non-magic skills and gain new ones.

Magical Skills that have a level, Special powers and languages are different.

For a start you need to have a teacher with the special that has the relevant teaching skills to impart the knowledge. In the case of magic, languages and other special powers, we require at least 3 logs of the RP between yourself and the teacher showing the tuition taking place.

This must be over a period of not less than 3 OOC Months since learning magic, a new language and a special power should be an arduous process if it were real and it should take a lot longer. Consider you can take a year long course in Latin and still not know enough to speak it with any degree of fluidity.

Anything else is adjudicated on a case by case basis and remember that the GMs have the final word in approving and setting your new magic, language, non standard specials.

If you provide a Log of training RP the GMs are more likely to convert that into RP points allowing you to get the Advancement you're hoping for. Imagine it's like a GAME SHOW, the more RP you do and the more you show the Judges impresses them - meaning that in this case, Points MEAN Prizes.
